I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve been scared of the Target Man role for a long time. I don’t think I’ve used one since FM12 or FM13. Even then, it was on a tactic I’d downloaded. Having steered the club away from relegation and to 10th place, I had hopes of a top half finish this year. I’d enforced and improved the club with important signings and cleared out deadwood and players who I didn’t think were cut out for my tactical plans. (more…)
If I’m being 100% honest, I wasn’t expecting much money for the transfer window, so getting over £30m was a huge boost. I needed strengthening in a couple of key areas. Priorities were, a new winger, centre back and centre midfielder. (more…)
Nine games remained and we certainly had room to manoeuvre compared to those below us. A couple of victories would take us out of the relegation zone. We didn’t have time to settle and ease into it. After the run down of my contract at Villarreal, the summer passed me by. Job offers were made, mainly by countries after unsuccessful World Cup campaigns, teams from the Spanish second division and various uninteresting clubs around Europe. I decided to wait it out for the right job. (more…)
The transfer business we conducted in the summer gave me a lot of confidence going into the new season. I started with a 4231 as I’ve been feeling that we sat too deep for the past two years. I’ve got a good squad of young players that should be able to work well in this system. (more…)
