L’OM la deuxième partie

I think that means L’OM Part Two. Apologies if not!

When I left off last time, I’d qualified for the Coup de la Ligue Final against PSG. We were on our way up the table and performing admirably. We did lose our first games, and unfortunate 2-1 reversal against Bordeaux and then a 2-0 defeat at Monaco. Tottenham knocked us out of the Europa League on away goals, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to progress in that competition. The domestic cups and getting as high up the leagues were more important to me.

After the Monaco defeat, we went 14 games without defeat again. We were a bit goal shy in this period, various injuries and suspension meant that getting my best 11 out didn’t happen very often. Demba Ba went on a barren spell but has come round again.

Silverware…

Obviously the stand out result on there is the result against PSG when we won the Coup de la Ligue. We were really under pressure as their superior squad were all over us. Twice they put the ball in the net and twice they were offside. After about 30mins I switched from my usual Control Mentality to Defensive. I considered Counter, but the way they were on top of us, I just thought Defensive was the safer option. We saw out the 90mins and only had 4 attempts on goal with only 2 hitting the target.

In the 1st minute of extra time, N’Zonzi was taken down on the edge of the box, admittedly an odd position for my Half Back to be, but nevermind. Demba Ba fired in the free kick and we were one up, disgusting if you were a PSG fan! At the start of the second half of extra time, following a break down in attack by PSG, Andre Ayew, playing at Left Wing Back, ran up the pitch and knocked a ball into Demba Ba who slotted home our second goal. Champions! Those goals ended an 11 hour goal drought for Ba.

The stats make it look a little bit closer, but PSG were relentless in their attacks. Still delighted to have got the win though.

Future…

As you can tell from the results, we’ve managed to make the Coupe de France Final, also against PSG so it will be interesting to see how we cope with that one. Two cups would definitely see me moving on at the end of this season. I’ve achieved my top half goal and taking in a cup or two would be a good send off. The squad needs a lot of work in the summer as I’m wanting to put myself about, I’m keeping a close eye on the job security around Europe. There’s only 3 games left this season, so I’ll include them in my next update and hopefully have another cup and maybe even my next team.

Thanks for reading.
